NORTH BRUNSWICK – Police have identified a suspect they believe is responsible for a string of car burglaries in town.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person, a male subject seen possibly pulling on vehicle door handles on Glenn and Grissom avenues, around 4:35 p.m. on April 28, according to information provided by the North Brunswick Police Department.
A patrol officer located a male matching the description provided by the caller allegedly leaving the area on foot, police said. After investigating further and finding evidence reportedly linking him to the crimes, a 31-year-old resident of New Brunswick was taken into custody. He was charged with burglary, theft and hindering apprehension. He also had outstanding warrants for previous burglaries.
Then, around 9:33 p.m. on April 29, officers were detailed to a vehicular burglary that had already taken place on Wood Avenue. While on scene, they were advised of another similar burglary nearby. After their investigation, a male subject was located nearby and found to allegedly be in possession of stolen proceeds from one of the burglarized vehicles, according to the statement.
The 50-year-old resident of New Brunswick was charged with receiving stolen property.
