Oct. 2 referendum will propose improvements in Colts Neck School District

COLTS NECK – Residents of Colts Neck will be asked to approve a referendum in a special election to be held Oct. 2. The public question will propose improvements in the Colts Neck K-8 School District.

The district consists of the Conover Road Primary School, the Conover Road Elementary School and the Cedar Drive Middle School.

On May 2, as the district’s Board of Education was adopting a budget for the 2018-19 school year, Superintendent of Schools MaryJane Garibay said the planned referendum would provide “improvements to the district and security, make strides to operate at a greener level, (include) overall infrastructure and facilities enhancements, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (upgrades), and the proposed addition of an auditorium at the Cedar Drive Middle School.”

Garibay said administrators will be able to provide residents with additional information about the scope of the projects and the tax impact on property owners after the district’s representatives present plans for the proposed work to the Colts Neck Planning Board and after the district receives final information from its bond counsel. Those tasks could be concluded by June, administrators said.

Schematic plans and educational specifications are being prepared by the architectural firm of Fraytak Veisz Hopkins Duthie, P.C.
