SOUTH RIVER – A 49-year-old North Brunswick man was killed on May 3 when he was struck by a vehicle on Pulawski Avenue in South River, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan said in a statement.
Phyliss Kocheran, 52, of South River, was allegedly the operator of a 2011 Jeep Wrangler, which struck William Oross, 49, on Pulawski Avenue at 11:17 a.m., according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Kocheran was issued a motor vehicle summons charging her with driving while intoxicated.
In the aftermath of the incident, Oross was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
An investigation by Detective Joseph Guiamano of the South River Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the prosecutor’s office determined Oross was working for a private recycling company at the time he was struck by the vehicle, according to the press release.
An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Oross died from blunt force injuries he sustained when he was struck by the Jeep. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Guiamano at 732-238-1000 or Morris at 732-745-4194.
