Freiberger to serve as grand marshal of Allentown Memorial Day parade

ALLENTOWN – Bob Freiberger, a former member of the Township Committee in Upper Freehold Township and a well-known individual in Monmouth County agricultural circles, will serve as the grand marshal of the 2018 Memorial Day parade in Allentown.

The Allentown Lions Club will host the parade, rain or shine, at 10:30 a.m. May 28.

Parade attendees should arrive by 9:45 a.m. due to Main Street and High Street road closures. There will be a children’s bicycle contest sponsored by Bruno’s Bike Shop at the corner of Allen Drive and North Main Street prior to the start of the parade. Antique cars are welcome to participate in the parade.

A memorial service honoring those who died in service to the nation will take place on the Newell Elementary School grounds following the parade.

In a press release, the Lions Club said “it is truly an honor this year to have Bob Freiberger as grand marshal of the Allentown Memorial Day parade.”

Freiberger is a graduate of Allentown High School and served as the New Jersey FFA president in 1967. He was owner-operator of Freiberger Farms from 1970 to 2013; in the past the farm was a dairy farm in addition to corn, soybeans, hay and straw. The farm was passed down from Freiberger’s father to him and he has passed it to his sons to run, according to the press release.

As a resident of Upper Freehold, Freiberger served on the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. He was elected to and served nine years on the Township Committee, including three one-year terms as mayor.

Freiberger received the Monmouth County Planning Board Merit Award for preserving 133 acres from development. He was presented with the Outstanding Service to Agriculture Award in March 2011.
