ENGLISHTOWN – Members of the Englishtown Borough Council are taking action to improve one of the borough’s roads.
On April 25, council members introduced a bond ordinance that, if adopted, will appropriate $275,000 to provide for road improvements to Hospitality Way and authorize the issuance of $86,250 in bonds or notes to cover part of the costs.
A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for May 23. The council may adopt the ordinance that evening.
According to the ordinance, the down payment for the improvements will be $13,750. A $175,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will help to pay for the work. The remaining costs will be covered by the issuance of bonds or notes in the amount of $86,250.
The road improvements authorized to Hospitality Way include, but are not limited to excavation, milling, paving, reconstruction, boxing out, and resurfacing or full depth pavement replacement. Also, as applicable, the improvements will include the repair and/or installation of curbs, curb ramps, sidewalks and driveway aprons, drainage work, road painting, and landscaping and aesthetic improvements, according to the ordinance.
The $275,000 appropriation includes all engineering and design work, surveying, construction planning, preparation of plans and specifications, permits, bid documents, construction inspection and contract inspection. Finally, the appropriation will pay for all work, materials, equipment, labor and appurtenances necessary.
In other business, council members recently passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of $34,851 in services from B&W Construction Co. of NJ Inc., South River, to repair a water main break at Gordons Corner Road and Main Street that occurred in December.
The council also passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of $5,250 in services from ABS Electric Inc., Elmer, for the removal of a motor starter from a water pump at one of the wells at Englishtown’s water treatment facility.
Additionally, council members passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of $2,888 in services from Allied Meter Service Inc., Burlington, for the purchase of a 4-inch head assembly for the borough’s water department.
Finally, the council passed a resolution appointing Jan E. Bilyk (Whisper Acres) as Englishtown’s animal control officer. The one-year agreement runs from March 2018 through Feb. 28, 2019, at an annual compensation of $1,400, according to the resolution.
