East Windsor resident killed in car accident

An 18-year-old East Windsor Township woman was killed when her car left the road and struck a tree on Princeton-Hightstown Road in West Windsor early on the morning of May 20, according to the West Windsor Township Police Department.

Irma I. Lopez, 18, was traveling west at about 8 a.m. when she lost control of her 2006 Toyota Scion as it approached a curve on Princeton-Hightstown Road between McGetrick Lane and Glengarry Way, police said.

The car, which police said was traveling at an unsafe speed, spun out of control clockwise, left the road and struck a tree, according to police. The force of the impact split the vehicle into two pieces.

Lopez, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the West Windsor Township Police Department’s Traffic Bureau and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team.
