OLD BRIDGE – Back in 1999, there was a small class of students with special needs who wanted to participate in their elementary school talent show. Their teacher, Debbie Goncalves, took on the challenge to create an act for them to perform.

During the next few months, the students were involved not only in rehearsals but they also assisted with sets and costumes. It was an amazing learning experience for all.

That June, the group received a standing ovation for their performance of the song “Belle” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Now, 19 years later, five of those original students are together again as members of TA-DA! Productions (Theatre Adapted for Different Abilities).

On June 6, they will perform their original roles from “Belle” in the opening number of “Destination Disney: A Day in Magic Kingdom,” during TA-DA! Production’s fifth spring performance, to be held in the Old Bridge High School auditorium, 4209 Route 516, Old Bridge/Matawan.
