It was a successful spring season for the baseball team at East Brunswick High School.

That was the summary that East Brunswick coach Chris Kenny reported.

“We won the [Greater Middlesex Conference] Red Division,” “Going 18-8 was a pretty good job in a tough conference. We made it to the state semifinals and lost to a really good team. I think we had a successful season, just a couple of things didn’t go our way.”

East Brunswick’s season came to an end when the Bears fell to Manalapan High School, 5-2, in the semifinals of the Central Jersey Group 4 state sectional tournament on May 29 in Manalapan.

Kenny also expects that East Brunswick will continue to aim for its goals when the 2019 spring season rolls around.

“Same,” Kenny said. “It’s always the same. Try to win 20 games and win the division. We also want to go deep in the postseason.”

Kenny is confident with the talented juniors who will return.

“[Junior] Joe Petrocelli is going to be back on the mound for us,” Kenny said. “He did well this year. [Junior] Mike Sutton behind the plate. He did well for us and he’s coming back. We have some young guys coming back too. So, we like the team that’s coming back next year.”
