The Old Bridge Library will offer “New Jersey’s Most Famous Road: The Turnpike” at 2 p.m. on June 16.
In this interactive discussion suitable for all ages, participants will learn about the turnpike’s execution, its impact on travel, and how it remains as an emblem of American ideas and values.
The program will be presented by Angus Kress Gillespie, a professor of American Studies and Urban Studies at Rutgers University.
This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Registration is not necessary.
A workshop on online businesses and New Jersey tax will be held at 10 a.m. on June 26.
The session will explore important sales tax requirements for online businesses. Topics to be covered include identifying taxable products and services, the differences of sales inside and outside of New Jersey, shipping issues, collecting New Jersey sales tax and filing sales and use tax returns.
“Business Registration & Reporting Business Income” will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 26. The session will provide tips for those planning to start a business or who are in the early stages of launching one. It will examine various business structures, registering a business in New Jersey, the difference between legal entity versus individual structured business registration, and how to report New Jersey business income.
Both workshops will be led by representatives from the New Jersey Division of Taxation. A Bharatanatyam dance workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 30. It will explore basic concepts and techniques of this classical Indian art form, and there will be a demonstration of basic steps. There will also be a brief introduction to Indian Abhinaya (acting) concepts. It will be instructed by Nisha Pradeep, artistic director of Takajum Dance School in Marlboro. The workshop is suitable for ages 7 and up; a question-and-answer session will follow.
