Old Bridge High wins its first state boys’ volleyball championship

Old Bridge High School captured the school’s first NJSIAA boys’ volleyball championship when it knocked off favored Southern Regional High School, 2-1, in the state title match that was played on June 7 at South Brunswick High School.

Old Bridge, which is ranked third in the state poll, won the first set, 25-22, but Southern Regional, ranked No. 1 in the state, tied the match with a 25-21 victory in the second set. Old Bridge then claimed the state title with its 25-23 victory in the third set.

Southern Regional was seeking its third straight state championship.
