FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Freehold Township K-8 School District Board of Education has awarded a contract for roof replacement at the board’s administration offices and the Early Childhood Learning Center, which share a property on Stillwells Corner Road.
In May, the board awarded a $365,000 contract to Multi Roof Maintenance, Wall Township. The firm’s total bid was comprised of a $338,000 base bid and a $27,000 alternate bid. Multi Roof Maintenance submitted the lowest bid.
However, on June 12, district administrators deemed Multi Roof Maintenance’s bid as being non-responsive and awarded the contract to the second lowest bidder, Arista Builders and Designers, Jackson.
Arista Builders and Designers bid a total of $381,000 for the job, which was comprised of a $353,000 base bid and a $28,000 alternate bid for work on brick re-pointing, the exterior roof access ladder, gravity vents, fiberglass insulation and the built-in gutter, according to the board.
Other bids for the roof replacement project were received from Northeast Roof Maintenance ($535,500) and D.A. Nolt ($592,461).
In other business, the board awarded a $277,248 contract to Gabe Sganga Inc., Farmingdale, for the replacement of the Joseph J. Catena School automatic temperature control system. Gabe Sganga was the lowest bidder seeking the contract. Another firm, AME Inc., submitted a bid of $279,000.
And, the board awarded a $34,288 contract to Hazmat Diagnostic, LLC, Bloomindgale, for asbestos abatement at the Eisenhower Middle School, the Laura Donovan School and the Marshall W. Errickson School. The board said Hazmat Diagnostic was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. The firm’s bid consisted of $16,800 for work at Eisenhower, $15,000 for work at Donovan and $2,488 for work at Errickson.
In addition to the bid from Hazmat Diagnostic, the Lilich Corp. submitted a $36,484 bid; MTM Metro submitted a $41,000 bid; GL Group submitted a $50,000 bid; Nari Construction, LLC, submitted a $68,000 bid; and Apex Development Inc. submitted a $142,680 bid.
Finally, the board accepted donations of assorted plants and flowers from the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and the Watershed Ambassadors of Monmouth County to the West Freehold School; $100 from the Benevity Community Impact Fund for the C. Richard Applegate School to purchase supplies for the Positive Behavior Support program; $2,000 from the West Freehold School PTO ($1,000 each for the fourth grade choir and the fifth grade choir); $2,798 from the Barkalow Middle School PTO to cover the expenses of two 3D printers and accessories; and an additional $10,000 from the Barkalow Middle School PTO.
The $10,000 donation from the Barkalow PTO will be allocated as $2,000 for the school’s debate team and $1,000 each for the Student Social Media Club, Volleyball Club, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Club, Model United Nations, Mural Club, Optimist Jr. Club, Maker Club and History Club, according to the board.
