MILLSTONE – Municipal officials have advanced a project to improve some of Millstone Township’s roads during 2018.
On June 6, members of the Township Committee adopted a bond ordinance that will provide an appropriation of $900,000 for the 2018 road improvement program. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $617,500 in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation.
According to the ordinance, the road improvement program includes, but is not limited to, improvements to Red Valley Road, Indian Path, Gravatt Circle, Ely Harmony Road, Disbrow Hill Road and miscellaneous minor road and drainage repairs throughout the township, including all work and materials.
A total of $32,500 will be made as a down payment on the improvements, according to the ordinance. A $250,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be used for the improvements to Red Valley Road.
In other business, committee members adopted a bond ordinance that will provide an appropriation of $310,000 for the acquisition of Department of Public Works vehicles and equipment.
The down payment for the DPW vehicles and equipment is $15,500, with $294,500 to be financed through the issuance of bonds. The vehicles and equipment include, but are not limited to, a back-hoe, a mid-range tractor and three Class II pick-up trucks, according to the ordinance.
“This [bond ordinance] will actually reduce our overall fleet [of vehicles] while improving it,” Committeeman Fiore Masci said. “We have some vehicles that really need to be replaced, but at the same time, we’ll be reducing our overall fleet number. So we are going to be upgrading it as well as reducing it.”
The committee also adopted an ordinance that will provide $250,000 for improvements to recreation facilities. The improvements will include work at the tennis courts and the basketball court at Rocky Brook Park. The money to be used for the improvements will come from the Recreation Trust Fund.
Mayor Gary Dorfman, Committeeman Michael Kuczinski and Masci voted to adopt the ordinance for the recreational facilities, and Committeeman Bob Kinsey abstained. Deputy Mayor Nancy was absent. The two bond ordinances were approved by all four committee members who were present.
