The Eric P. Donoghue Scholarship Foundation originated in 2003 after Donoghue, a local musician, passed away at the age of 32.

Scholarship awards are made each year to seniors who plan to pursue music and/or theater in college. The awards are financed through the financial generosity of friends and residents, according to a press release.

Cole, a student at Mater Dei Prep, was active throughout his four years at the Middletown school. He participated in the school chorus, honors chorus, All-Shore Chorus and the school band, according to a press release.

Cole was also a member of the National and French National Honor Societies.

Cole will attend the Hart School of Music at the University of Hartford, where he will participate in musical theatre and the academic honors program, according to a press release. He is the son of Jonathan and Sherrie Cole.

McCormick, a student at Middletown High School South, was a member of the marching band and pep band, as well as the theatre arts club. McCormick appeared in several of the school’s musical productions.

McCormick was also an Eagle Scout, as well as a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies.

McCormick will be attending the University of New Haven where he will major in music and sound recording. He is the son of Michael and Tara McCormick.
