SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville School District bid farewell to a physical education teacher and coach who is retiring, as well as a vice principal who is transferring to a new school district.

Last month, the Board of Education honored George Najjar, who will retire on July 1. At the time of his retirement, Najjar was a physical education and health teacher at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School.

According to Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe, Najjar taught at Sayreville War Memorial High School (SWMHS) for 20 years and at Eisenhower Elementary for four years. He had served as the head football coach at Sayreville War Memorial High School for 20 years.

Labbe thanked Najjar for his efforts on and off the athletic field and wished him well in his retirement.

The board also approved the resignation of SWMHS Vice Principal Dale Rubino, also effective July 1. Rubino resigned from the district to become principal of Spotswood High School.

“I would like to personally congratulate Mr. Rubino for being appointed to be the new principal of Spotswood High School,” Labbe said. “I am so thrilled for him and his family. I think the Spotswood School District did an excellent job in finding an incredibly talented educational leader. And he too will be sorely missed.

“He has made a profound impact on the culture and the academics here at the high school and I know, speaking on behalf of [SWMHS Principal James] Brown, that he is sorely going to miss Mr. Rubino,” he said. “I’ve also talked to many of our staff members at the high school and many of our parents and students from the high school, and they too will sorely miss Mr. Rubino.”
