Campers can make circuits, gearboxes during makerspace camp

Scott Jacobs
Carolyn Aversano celebrated NJ Makers Day by hosting a Soldering Seminar at the Jackson Public Library on March 9. Local Jackson residents. Charlie Eergmann, 14, solders together the components to make a LED robot pin that lights up.

The North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services will hold Constructing A Makers Movement, where campers will construct circuits, gearboxes, solar panels, rubber band motor, propellers, batteries and/or wearable electronics, and then take those items into the makerspace and add to them to solve a problem.

Interested students will also spend time learning to code using RASPBERRY Pi while in the makerspace. They will learn how to use TinkerCad to design their project online and use in the makerspace if desired.

Open to students from kindergarten to eighth grade, at any level, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. from July 9-13 in the Employee Lounge of the North Brunswick Municipal Building, 710 Hermann Road, North Brunswick.

Send a snack with each camper, as well as soda bottles, tops, towel and toilet paper rollers, two cardboard boxes and any old DVDs or CD to bring to the start of class.

The cost is $190 per participant.
