East Brunswick athlete sparkles in her freshman year

Angelina Martinez made a splash in her freshman year at East Brunswick High School.

Her splash was not just in the pool during the winter season when she starred as a swimmer.

She also excelled in the autumn on the East Brunswick gymnastics team when she placed 12th in the vault event at the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.

In the winter she finished in sixth place at the GMC championship swim meet with a time of 26.93 in the 50-meter freestyle race.

She then continued to excel on the track during the spring.

She finished second in the GMC freshman race in the 100 meters and then was a member of East Brunswick’s championship 4×100-meter relay team.

She teamed with seniors Shanelle Colman and Victoria Constantin and junior Dierdre Otto when the girls won the 4×100 with a time of 48.24 at the Central Jersey, Group 4 state sectional meet. That time set a Central Jersey, Group 4 sectional record in that event.

In the state Meet of Champions 4×100 final, the East Brunswick foursome finished in fourth place with a time of 47.79.

Martinez was voted as the recipient of East Brunswick’s Outstanding Freshman award.

Outside of athletics, she also carries a 4.0 GPA and is a volunteer with the American Heart Association.
