Metuchen Fire Department should be centrally located

SCOTT FRIEDMAN
Joshua Koster, 2, of Metuchen has fun with Metuchen Fire Department equipment at the Metuchen Street Fair on May 22.

The Metuchen Borough Council is considering the Metuchen First Aid Squad property as the site for relocating the Metuchen Fire Department. While this certainly is a possibility, I think the council should reconsider using this property as it is not centrally located in the town.

The squad located at Safety Place is in the southwest corner of town. Traffic has become so congested now for much of the day that trying to travel across town now seems to take twice as long as it did just five years ago.

Add to that the congestion all the new construction downtown will bring which could only hamper volunteers trying to get to the fire station, if it is located at Safety Place, and add to the response time to a fire or accident.

Please consider this in your plans to relocate such an essential service to our community.
