New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) officials have announced a resurfacing project that will require shoulder, lane and ramp closures along 3 miles of Business Route 33 between Freehold and Howell.
Work was expected to begin on July 5 and to continue daily for several weeks or until completion, according to a press release.
The DOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt Co., was scheduled to temporarily close the shoulders along Route 33 in both directions between Kondrup Way in Freehold and Fairfield Road in Howell to install construction signs and start preparation work in advance of the start of milling and paving.
Traffic signal upgrades, and guiderail, sidewalk, drainage and concrete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb work on Route 33 along the 3-mile segment will take place in the daytime, according to the press release.
Overnight milling and paving is expected to begin this summer after sidewalk and shoulder work is completed. There may be limited daytime lane closures required during utility work. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times, according to the press release.
The majority of the milling and paving work on Route 33 will occur with the following schedule: Monday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Saturday, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and Sunday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic detours will be coordinated with the New Jersey State Police.
The $2.7 million project funded by the state will resurface 3 miles of Route 33 in both directions between Kondrup Way in Freehold and Fairfield Road in Howell.
In addition, there will be guiderail upgrades at the Burkes Creek Culvert and the Kill Time Brook Culvert. Several signalized intersections will receive safety improvements. The project is expected to be completed this year, according to the press release.
The following intersections are scheduled to receive improvements: Kondrup Way and Route 33; Halls Mill Road/Asbury Avenue and Route 33; Five Points Road/Howell Road and Route 33; and Brickyard Road/Fairfield Road and Route 33.
