HOLMDEL – The Holmdel Zoning Board of Adjustment has rescheduled a public hearing regarding the proposed construction of a New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) regulator station for Aug. 1
On July 9, a zoning board official said the public hearing, which was scheduled for the board’s July 11 meeting, would be carried to next month.
According to the agenda for the July 11 meeting, members of the zoning board were scheduled to decide if the application filed by NJNG was complete and could advance to a public hearing.
The hearing would have included testimony about the project and comments from members of the public, according to the board.
NJNG is seeking variances from the zoning board to construct a regulator station, access and utilities on a 16.51-acre site at 960 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, according to the agenda.
The company is a statewide supplier of natural gas and serves more than 525,000 customers in Monmouth, Ocean, Morris, Middlesex and Burlington counties, according to its website.
Michael Kinney, director of corporate communications for NJNG, said, “We continue to have conversations with the town regarding the regulator station. The regulator station is necessary to maintain system integrity and ensure safe, reliable service to our customers in Holmdel and the surrounding communities.”
Kinney described the communication process between the company’s engineers and Holmdel officials as ongoing.
The company’s proposal for the same type of facility at 970 Holmdel Road was denied by the zoning board in 2016. NJNG is now presenting the facility on a neighboring property, according to municipal officials.
