New multimedia and communications director will bring Metuchen closer to residents

METUCHEN — The borough has a new director of multimedia and communications.

Brandon Uhlig, who had served as the videographer for the Edison Township Public Schools, began his new role with the municipality on July 2. He will be responsible for expanding Metuchen’s social media presence and in the coming months will transform METV, the community’s television channel.

“This is a cooperative effort between the borough, the Board of Education and the Metuchen Downtown Alliance,” Mayor Jonathan Busch said.

Busch said all three entities will work with Uhlig to improve the content that is put forth on social media and on METV.

For example, Uhlig may tape a cooking show at a restaurant in the downtown district, conduct an historic house tour for the borough, and highlight curriculum in the schools, officials said.

Uhlig’s annual salary will be $61,000 for the borough. On June 26, the school board moved to approve a contract with Brandon Uhlig LLC to provide multimedia and communication services at the rate of $10,000 for the 2018-19 school year.

In his career, Uhlig has received a number of awards for his work, including twice being nominated for Emmy awards for community television.

“His hire is part of our continued effort to bring the borough closer to its residents by [highlighting] what is going on in the borough,” Busch said.

Busch has said he, along with Borough Administrator Jay Muldoon and members of the Borough Council, have been discussing different ways of delivering METV, which is seen on channel 15 on the Cablevision system in Metuchen.

The mayor said during the next few months, viewers will notice a substantial difference in respect to METV, whether through social media or Channel 15.
