The Old Bridge Library will examine “The Bizarre Case of Lizzie Borden” about the Sunday school teacher and early suffragette at 2 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the library, 1 Municipal Plaza at the corner of Cottrell Road and Route 516, Old Bridge.

In 1892, Borden was accused and acquitted in the brutal ax murders of her father and stepmother. It was during the staid Victorian era when women did not have the vote nor were believed to be cunning enough to devise, and too delicate to carry out, such heinous acts.

As part of the Notorious Women of History program, professional speaker and living history re-enactor Kate Butler inhabits the role of Borden in a one-woman performance that reveals surprising facts of the case as well as Borden’s psychological state of mind.
