Gov. Phil Murphy has signed a bill into law which designates a portion of Interstate 195 in Howell as “State Trooper Marc K. Castellano Memorial Highway.”

Castellano, 29, of Howell, was a trooper with the New Jersey State Police on June 6, 2010, when he was struck by a car while participating in a police investigation on the highway. Castellano was not in his vehicle at the time he was struck. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he died several hours later.

“Committed to the service of others, Marc perfectly exemplified our New Jersey values; he was courageous, selfless and a true patriot,” Murphy said. “The loss of Trooper Castellano is yet another reminder of the bravery our law enforcement officers demonstrate each and every day, and this commemoration will ensure that Trooper Castellano’s sacrifice to give his life while protecting the public will never be forgotten.”

Castellano was a 1998 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, Jackson, and a 2004 graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy, Sea Girt. He was assigned to Troop C and served on the Tactical Patrol Unit.
