Middletown Little League team wins regional opener

Middletown, the New Jersey state champion, is two victories from reaching the Little League World Series.

The 12-year-old all-stars from Middletown beat Berlin Little League, the Maryland state champion, 6-2, on Monday, in the Mid-Atlantic Regional opener in Bristol, Conn. Middletown can win the regional and advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., by winning its next two games, which will be played on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.

In the opening victory during the regional on Monday, Aug. 6, James Finer earned the for Middletown, allowing two runs in five innings. Reid Tully slammed the door in the sixth. Joey Wall hit a two-run single for Middletown. Dylan Briggs and Dylan Paso each drove in one run.

Middletown will play the Mid Island Little League, which is out of of Staten Island, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday’s championship. The loser will have to win a losers’ bracket game on Friday to reach the championship.
