MILLTOWN — Emergency services personnel in Milltown are asking residents/and or commercial businesses to be cognizant of having visible street address numbers after experiencing prolonged response times.
“It’s the time when there is a little more landscaping and things may get overgrown,” Police Chief Brian Knelle said. “Generally numbers are visible. … We don’t have an epidemic, we just want to get a proper handle on it.”
Knelle said a Nixle notification sent out on July 31 is for residents and business operators to be more conscious of where address numbers are placed.
The message said numbers on mailboxes or numbers painted on the curb are usually ineffective as they are often obstructed by vehicles. Emergency service units also encounter many identification numbers obstructed by landscaping or written in script, which are not always easy to identify.
“The [address in] big bold numbers under light with full exposure from the street and/or over the garage door on a wall is ideal, Knelle said.
The Nixle message states that address identification numbers should be at minimum 5 inches tall and in a color which is in contrast to their background.
