Around 11:53 a.m. on Aug. 7, Officer Salvatore Fama was informed of a device attached to a parachute, accompanied by a handwritten note indicating it was not a bomb but mentioning the president, making a hissing sound, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

This was the second package that had been located in New Jersey that day and due to the fact that President Trump was in Somerset County, extra precautions were taken, according to police.

Several agencies, including the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit, Kendall Park Fire Department and federal authorities worked to resolve the situation.

The package was ultimately determined to be a weather monitoring device, according to the statement. Investigators determined the item was one of six released on Aug. 5 from the New Brunswick area by NASA scientists. These devices will come down after a period of time at random locations, police said. The weather researchers were apologetic for any concerns they had raised by the hand written note on the device, according to officials.

There are no charges related to the incident.
