National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community, according to information provided by the organization.

“All of the residents of our city stand shoulder to shoulder with the members of the South Amboy Police Department in their efforts to ensure the safety of our community,” Mayor Fred Henry said. “It is our hope that by our participation in this annual national event that we can demonstrate our support in a more tangible way. This is an excellent opportunity for our residents to meet with our police and learn what a tremendous asset they are to our city.”

National Night Out was held on Aug. 7 from 6-9 p.m. in the South Amboy Middle/High School parking lot.

Organizations in attendance were the South Amboy Fire Department, Topgolf Edison, Middlesex County, Girl Scouts, The MAX, Windsor Healthcare, Accelo Learning Head Start, PRAB Human Service Organization, Boy Scout Troop 91, DARE, Police Benevolent Association, Mobile Family Success of Middlesex County, South Amboy YMCA, Elks Lodge 784, D.B. Kelly Pipe and Drum band, Bubba’s 33, South Amboy Parent Teacher Organization and South Amboy Athletics Organization.

“While the city depends on the police for community caretaking, all of the members of our governing body are committed to creating an environment where our children can enjoy a wide variety of wholesome activities that provide alternatives to less desirable types of behavior,” Henry said. “We will continue to work closely with the South Amboy police and any community group committed to that same goal.”
