A narcotics investigation spanning several months was conducted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Drug Task Force and the Jamesburg Police Department.

As a result of the investigation, detectives allegedly seized approximately 50 bricks of heroin (which is in excess of more than 2,000 individual dosage units), cash totaling $872, and a scale and grinder both used in the manufacture and distribution of narcotics, according to the statement.

Ortiz was charged with possession of heroin in the third degree, possession with intent to distribute heroin in the second degree, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin near public property, one being a county park.

Barbosa was charged with a disorderly person’s offense of possession of marijuana.

This case is in addition to two separate indictments, filed earlier this year, in which Ortiz is charged with resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful receipt of handgun ammunition, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance – cocaine, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance with intent to distribute near school property, tampering and obstruction, according to the statement.

Anyone with information should contact Lt. Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Drug Task Force at 732-745-8390 or Sgt. Jason Muller of the Jamesburg Police Department at 732-521-0011.
