Maxim Michaels of Marlboro is the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the United States Tennis Association’s Eastern Boys 12s Division.
Michaels earned the ranking by performing well in tournaments from July 2017 to July 2018.
Now he will be honored for his ranking when the USTA Eastern Junior Awards Gala is held on Aug. 27. The gala will start at 10:30 a.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, N.Y.
Flushing Meadows is the annual site of the U.S. Open tennis championships. The gala will take place on the first day of the 2018 U.S. Open.
The event celebrates the top three Eastern Junior players in each USTA age division (boys and girls ages 10-18). To receive an invite, players must be ranked in the top three on the first list published in July.
Michaels was No. 1 on the Boys 12s list. The No. 2 ranked player was also from New Jersey, Rohan Belday of West Orange.
