Motorcyclist killed in accident

A motorcyclist was killed early on the morning of Aug. 27 when his motorcycle was struck by a car at the intersection of Route 1 and Franklin Corner Road, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.

The motorcyclist was crossing Route 1 from Bakers Basin Road to Franklin Corner Road when a Volkswagen Jetta traveling south on Route 1 struck the motorcycle at 12:21 a.m., police said.

The motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the 35-year-old Hamilton Township resident who was driving the Volkswagen was not injured.

No charges had been filed as of Aug. 27, police said.

The accident is under investigation by Police Officer James Gorski and Detective Daniel Gladney, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Unit. Individuals who witnessed the collision are asked to call Gladney at 609-844-7133.
