Edison home uninhabitable following fire

EDISON — An attic and roof fire at a home on Grove Avenue, near James Street, has left the home temporarily uninhabitable, according to Edison fire officials.

One occupant was inside the home and reported smelling smoke at 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 27. The individual left the house after dialing 911 for help, authorities said.

Fire Capt. Andy Toth said Edison firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire and found flames in the attic and on the roof when they arrived.

“Smoke and water damage has left the house temporarily uninhabitable until repairs can be made,” he said.

Toth said the cause of the fire does not appear suspicious, but it remains under investigation. Fire departments from neighboring communities also responded and assisted with the fire.
