SPOTSWOOD – With the Spotswood Police Department now providing services for two municipalities, three new officers have been hired and sworn in as members of the force.

“For many years as a police officer here in Spotswood as a patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and ultimately chief, we have always been drifting in and out of Helmetta [during] my career here,” Police Chief Michael Zarro said.

“Helmetta is now contracted with us to provide police services. That caused us to have to hire three officers to stack our shifts so we could have adequate coverage there,” Zarro said.

Patrolmen Robert Bocchino, Joseph Napoli and River Ullrich were sworn in on Aug. 13 as the newest members of the police department. These officers finished as the top candidates after a lengthy and rigorous selection process, according to a statement from the police department.
