Poet hopes to inspire students to be safe while driving

I write poems for the Hall’s Corner Senior Apartments newsletter. One that I wrote, “On the Road,” seems appropriate since school is starting. It may wake up some students from speeding and texting. If I can save one child’s life with this poem, it would give me much pleasure.

Driving lately has become a task
No matter who you talk to or even ask
Speeding & texting are common today
Don’t let this be you or someone will pay

When you get in your car, take time to think
You can avoid an accident, which can happen in a blink
Remember we are here only one time around
Don’t let it come sooner, or you’ll be in the ground
