NORTH BRUNSWICK – To mark the beginning of the new school year, the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services announced its Scholar/Athlete/Artist award recipients for September.
Nicholas Moccio is in the 10th grade at North Brunswick Township High School (NBTHS) with a 3.9 GPA.
He was the ninth grade homeroom representative for the Student Government Organization, and was a Model UN Club member.
He has attended the Arts & Education middle school and high school for filmmaking. He participated in the Linwood Middle School Drama Club and played Juror No. 2 in the NBTHS production of “Twelve Angry Jurors” in fall 2017. He has played the violin and cello in school orchestra for seven years. He currently plays mallet instruments in the NBTHS Marching Band Pit and the vibraphone in the NBTHS Winter Percussion Band. He is self-taught to play keyboard, ukulele, electric and acoustic guitar and percussion instruments, according to the proclamation read during the Sept. 4 North Brunswick Township Council meeting.
Nicholas was a participant in the North Brunswick Soccer Club for five seasons and in North Brunswick Baseball/Softball Association for six seasons.
He has been a Boy Scout for two years and a Cub Scout for five years.
Nicholas volunteered as a counselor in service for the North Brunswick Summer Camp Program and has been a participant in the North Brunswick Memorial Day 5K Walk/Run for three years.
In May, he donated more than 11 inches of hair to Locks of Love.
During his free time he has designed and built a gaming computer for his personal use.
Waleed Masood is a senior at NBTHS on the Honor Roll. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He has a perfect attendance certificate for the 2016-17 school year.
Waleed is the vice president of the Environmental Club at NBTHS, the treasurer of the Key Club, a member of the NBTHS Bowling Team, and is a tutor at Judd Elementary School.
He studied analytical chemistry as a participant in Group Summer Scholars Research Program (GSSRP) at Kean University during the summer of 2017 while also working as a stock boy at Malik Pharmacy, according to his proclamation.
Waleed volunteers at Adopt-A-Shelf at the North Brunswick Library, at Elijah’s Promise as a teen volunteer, and was a cadet in the North Brunswick Junior Police Academy. He is also a teen volunteer at CentraState Medical Center.
