JACKSON – This year marks the 11th annual Wounded Warrior event hosted by the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club, South Stump Tavern Road, Jackson.
Mayor Mike Reina has hosted the annual Wounded Warrior parade/escort each year since taking office in 2008. On Oct. 13, starting at 9 a.m., veterans will be assembling at the Jackson Justice Complex as they prepare for their ride to the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club.
The veterans will be escorted by the Jackson Police Department, volunteer fire companies, first aid squads, motorcycle organizations and other individuals showing support. The escort is expected to depart the Justice Complex at 9:30 a.m.
Organizers said residents and members of area organizations and clubs may line up from the Justice Complex on West Veterans Highway to the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club as a sign of support and to honor those who served.
“The freedoms we enjoy as Americans have been purchased and maintained at a high price throughout our history,” Reina said. “We owe a great debt to those who have served in defense of our nation.
“For many, their sacrifice has ended in permanent injury. It has been a true honor to ride alongside these heroes each year as we escort them. Showing your support will only take a few minutes out of your day, but will provide a lasting memory for these heroes,” the mayor said.
Spectators will be asked to safely park their cars along the roads, wave flags and show their support as the parade passes by. Any agency, club or group wishing to take part may contact the mayor’s office at 732-928-1200, ext.1211.
