FREEHOLD – The deadline to submit ideas to the Freehold Borough participatory
budgeting program has been extended to Sept. 30.
According to a Sept. 21 statement from Councilman Ron Griffiths and Committeeman Kevin Kane, the participatory budgeting committee was made aware of several organizations and individuals who were still preparing their proposals.
The program allows any Freehold Borough resident age 14 and over to present a project they would like funded by the town.
Individuals interested in submitting a proposal may visit Freehold Borough’s website and click on Participatory Budgeting. The form may be completed and submitted online.
This is the second year of the program and Freehold Borough was the first community in New Jersey to offer participatory budgeting to its residents, according to the councilmen.
Municipal officials have set aside $200,000 of the capital budget to allow residents
to tell them how to improve the community’s infrastructure. Griffiths and Kane said the participatory budgeting program does not increase the municipal budget or raise
property taxes.
