Edison bicyclist fractures skull after being struck by car

EDISON — Police are investigating an accident that left a 28-year-old man with a skull fracture and other injuries when his bicycle was struck by a motor vehicle, according to police.

A 58-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Sonata was reportedly making a left turn from Amboy Avenue onto Woodbridge Avenue at 5:35 p.m. on Sept. 26 when she allegedly struck the bicyclist who was peddling across the busy intersection, police said.

The victim, an Edison man, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police Capt. Joseph Shannon said the driver has not been charged and it appears the bicyclist was not traveling in a designated crosswalk at the intersection. Potential charges are pending the outcome of Police Officer Michael Carter’s investigation into the accident, according to officials.
