Kenneth J. Rutkowsky, 71

Rosalie Ann LaGrutta

Kenneth J. Rutkowsky, 71, of Princeton Junction, NJ, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.
Born in New York, Ken came to East Windsor in 1972 and settled in Princeton Junction with his family in 1977.  While entering into the work force he served in the U.S. Navy Air Reserves.  He began his early career as a treaty underwriting trainee at American Re where he rose to Senior Vice President.  His career then went on to see him become a Founding Partner and Executive Vice President of American Treaty Management Corporation.  As his career continued, he went on to hold positions as President and CEO of both Tempest Reinsurance Company, Ltd. and North Star Reinsurance Company.  He then continued on to become a Managing Director at Bonnell Associates.  Ken was highly regarded across the industry as a brilliant and skilled negotiator as well as an excellent business man with great integrity.  Upon retiring, he continued his work as a consultant.  Ken then found his second calling where he went on to become a Project Manager for Sebastiano Nini Inc. and was a cofounder of Runi Enterprises.
While he enjoyed a very successful career that would see him rise up from a mailroom employee to multiple senior level positions, Ken would say his greatest accomplishment was the family he and Stephanie, the love of his life and wife of nearly 50 years created, shared and treasured.  He loved to travel with Stephanie, especially to their favorite destination, Maui, and they also resided in Bermuda for a period of time.  Ken cherished his roles as son, brother, husband, dad and pop-pop.  He lived for family gatherings, celebrations and attending all of his grandchildren’s school events and sporting activities. You could also catch him at Citi Field rooting on his favorite sports team, the Mets! His quick wit and dry sense of humor kept us all on our toes.  And there wasn’t a crossword puzzle out there that could stump him!  Ken will always be known as a humble, caring, thoughtful, present man of several interests, who will be remembered by many for years to come.
Predeceased by his parents, John and June (Anderson) Rutkowsky; his wife, Stephanie A. (Gontarsky) Rutkowsky; and his sister, Lynn N. Mattel; he is survived by his children, Richard M. Rutkowsky, Dawn A. Andrew, her husband, Grant, and their daughter, Jordan, Karen B. Thompson, her husband, David, and their son, Jonathan, and Brian J. Rutkowsky, his wife, Stephanie, and their children, Olivia and Wyland.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at A.S. Cole & Son Co. 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, N.J. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 2-5 p.m. with a funeral service starting at 5 p.m.
Interment services will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Brainerd Cemetery (located behind the First Presbyterian Church) 22 South Main Street, Cranbury, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ken’s memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 79 One Mile Road Extension, East Windsor N.J. 08520.
