Sunday afternoon at Malcolm X Shabazz High School, the Hillsborough Dukes Junior Varsity football team improved their overall record to 4-2 with an impressive 14-0 victory over the Newark Stallions. For the third consecutive week, the Dukes defense gave no quarter with linebackers Chris Spinelli, Michael Schmelzer and Anthony Panatieri delivering crushing blows. Defensive ends Billy Meszaros and Luke Scott also contributed with multiple sacks and tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Following a mostly stalemated first half, the Dukes capitalized on a sack and subsequent fumble recovery by Meszaros to set-up their first score of the game, an electrifying 17-yard run by Zion Harrison. Sophomore sensation Jackson Roberts interception and 30-yard return for a touchdown with less than five minutes in regulation proved the coup de grace with Luke Scott threading a PAT for good measure.

“This was an important out of conference win for us today,” said Head Coach Mike Spinelli after the game. “The Stallions were 4-1 going into this game so we knew this would be a battle.  Ant-Man Hinton, Jr. gets our game ball today – he played like a lion on defense.”

The Hillsborough Dukes JV team has one more out of conference game before JVC playoffs begin the weekend of October 21.
