TOMS RIVER – The Toms River Township Council has introduced an ordinance that will, if adopted, permit the installation of a stop sign at the intersection of Duchess Court and Northstream Drive.
The ordinance was introduced during a meeting on Oct. 9. A public hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 23. The council may adopt the ordinance following the public hearing.
The intersection is a four lane intersection with just a ‘Dead End’ sign at the end of Duchess Court, which heads into a cul-de-sac.
Councilwoman Laurie Huryk said the township council received a complaint from a resident in September regarding safety concerns at the corner of Duchess Court and Northstream Drive.
“The township engineer reviewed the situation and agreed that a stop sign at this location was warranted. The suggestion was then forwarded to the Toms River Police Department for review by the safety officer, who concurred that a stop sign should be placed on Duchess Court at the intersection of Northstream Drive,” Huryk said.
When the ordinance was introduced, Councilman Terrance Turnbach said he was pleased with the quick response from the council to develop the proposed ordinance.
In addition to council approval, the ordinance would have to be approved by Mayor Thomas Kelaher.
