Bringing exclusive entertainment to the area for 38 years, the Community Concert Association of Bordentown, Inc. introduced a new season of its concert series earlier this month as locals gathered at Regional Middle School to enjoy an afternoon performance.
With a mission to provide an annual series of culturally diverse performances at an affordable price, the concert association has made a continuous effort to showcase talent to the community from a variety of performers, many of whom have achieved state, national or international success in the performing arts.
Whether it’s an afternoon’s performance of Broadway hits, American Standards, Jazz, symphonies and much more, the association’s membership chairman Charles Fisher, believes the annual concert series is a growing effort that showcases premier talent.
“I just love music and the variety of music you get with this [concert series],” said Fisher. “One of our goals is to provide a broad spectrum of music interests. I think we have a better, broader selection of musicians coming in with more different types of performances.”
As the concert series continues to deliver a wide range of performers to the community, the association’s artistic director Robert Violette, strives to bring in more reputable talent.
Dedicating his efforts to the concert series for the past six years, not only does Violette hope to provide audiences with a unique experience, but to benefit the talent he recruits as well.
“I want to bring people in with enough experience that they will know how to present themselves professionally,” said Violette. “That means they’re out there working. They may not be major stars, but they’re going to be people that audiences want to hear. I want to bring them to Bordentown to give them more experiences and put them in a place where they can build their resume.”
As an opera singer, Violette has significant background experience in music both as an artist and producer, working alongside many of the artists and performers he brings to the concert series.
With reputable artists on stage having performed professionally in distant regions such as Europe, Violette believes that the concert series brings superior talent to Bordentown at a reasonable cost.
“[The concert series] brings a high quality of performers here far beyond what you think you’re going to get with the tickets prices that we have,” said Violette. “We’re able to attract audiences, but we’re also able to attract really good talent.”
Although the association’s main goal is to display performances for local residents to entertain them, the Violette also hopes that people in the audience can savor the experience as a leisure activity.
“It’s to bring the arts to the community, so the community can then benefit from what the arts have to offer,” Violette added. “An afternoon of relaxation – how many people really need that these days?”
For people interested in attending a concert put on by the association, their next show at the Regional Middle School will be on Nov. 4, featuring the Dixieland Traveling Show Band. There will also be a concert series performance in March and April as well.
