Greater NJ AYF Delaware Division

Hillsborough Varsity Red (Ruh) vs. Ridge Varsity Red: Won 13-0

Hillsborough Varsity White (Shelton) vs. Voorhees Varsity Red: Won 20-6

The White Raiders completed their regular season Saturday night with a convincing 20-6 victory over Voorhees. The win clinched first place in the Delaware conference and a #1 seed in the the playoffs.

The defense got things started right away. On the first play from scrimmage, the Voorhees ball carrier fumbled the ball and defensive back Kevin Shelton recovered it. Four plays later, quarterback Ryan Laties took it to the end zone from the 1-yard line. The point after touchdown failed and the Raiders had a 6-0 lead.

Voorhees got on the board in the 2nd quarter after a turnover at the Raiders own 10 yard line gave the ball to the Jr. Vikings who punched it in a few plays later. The extra point kick was blocked by Shelton and the score remained knotted at 6-6 going into halftime.

On the Raider’s first possession of the second half, Cole Thornton busted through several tackles and sprinted 46 yards for the score. The point after touchdown was no good and the Raiders took a 12-6 lead. In the fourth quarter, Thornton took a pitch from Laties and after breaking tackles and somehow managing to stay in-bounds, ran 77 yards for his second touchdown. Dan Remarkawicz’s extra point kick was good and lead jumped to 20-6. Thornton finished the game with 14 carries for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense took over after that and shut down the Vikings for the remainder of the game. The White Raiders will now get ready for Del-Val. Del-Val defeated the Raiders on opening day this year. The Raiders have since won six games in a row and have been looking forward to a rematch.

Little Stix Maroon (2-4) (DiGanci) vs. Philipsburg: Won 4-2

Little Maroon beat Philipsburg on what was the final game at the 2/4 level for numerous players on the team. After quickly falling behind 0-1, Maroon showed heart and rebounded by scoring four straight goals.

Maroon was led by two goals apiece by Taelyn Fredo and Morghan DiGanci. The goals were helped by strong wing play by Zeia Rosenthal, Chloe Delacruz, and Sabrina Shields. Later Zeia and Chloe finished the game playing midi with Chloe making her debut at the position. Jessica Mckelvey and Cailyn Bugal played multiple positions throughout the game seemingly being everywhere at once. Brianna Gibson came oh so close to scoring on her birthday, having a goal called back due to an offensive infraction seconds before she put the ball in the back of the net.

After not winning during the first three weeks of the season, Maroon rebounded to finish the season on a four game winning streak. The coaching staff would like to thank the girl?s family and friends who came to the games to support the team through the heat and the cold (and everything in-between). Each player made great progress this season and it was a pleasure for the coaches to work with such fine young ladies.

Little Stix Gold (2-4) (Vogt) vs. Mansfield: Lost 0-1

The last game of the year was upon the Little Stix Gold and the field condition reminded us that we certainly are not in a drought. The visitors from Mansfield were greeted with an emerald yet squishy Woodfield Park East field. It didn’t affect the game nor players, at all. Both teams were ready for action. The play in the first half was mainly even, with the Gold Raiders entering the circle a few times, but missing their shots wide. On the flip side, the defense held up strong and many Mansfield advances were intercepted in the mid-field before they were dangerous. The Gold Raiders successfully defended a few corner opportunities toward the end of the half to keep the score 0-0. The play was crisp overall.

The second half started to tilt toward the Mansfield offense a bit. The visitors in blue intercepted clearing chances and put many balls into the circle. The Gold Raiders defense held off most offensive attempts. Mansfield scored when they were able to take an intercepted re-start and dribble smoothly into the circle for a strong shot, scoring center net. The Gold Raiders bounced back. As time was running out, the Gold Raiders made some nice passes and shifty dodges to gain the circle, but the Mansfield defense hustled back to cancel out the scoring chance. Mansfield won 1-0.

The coaches were very proud of the effort by the players this day as the Gold Raiders never gave up. The coaches are also pleased with the growth they have seen individually with skill development and with understanding that team play is how you succeed. Stick skills and game play skills improved tremendously as the year progressed. The coaches hope to see everyone next year, ready to build upon this years’ progress. Thank You Players… Thank You Parents… Thank You Field Hockey…

The Little Stix Gold are: 29-Samantha Dandy, 35-Alexa Gaspar, 38-Megan Vogt, 43-Bella Ruh, 47-Olivia Kay, 49-Brielle Emmich, 53-Addison Daisey, 63-Sylee Damle, 65-Bailee Wolf, 80-Eleanor Enna, Coach Melissa Dandy, Coach Patrick Vogt

Junior Stix Gold (5-6) (Citarella & Harding)

Jr. Raiders Field Hockey Team Gold wins the championship title with an undefeated season.

Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Field Hockey played in the season finale 2018 NJPA Tournament today in Easton, Pennsylvania. Team Gold was seeded first with an undefeated season going into the tournament. Each game ran approximately 20 minutes with all four Junior 5/6 teams enjoying a full day of back-to-back field hockey games.

Team Gold began the first game against their sister Team Maroon from Hillsborough. Team Maroon put up an excellent fight from the start. Team Gold was able to score three times, all from their forwards: Milan Citarella, Hannah Bianchino, and Victoria Byra. All 3 girls had the help of co-forward Addison Harkin who fed the ball into the circle. Goalie Keira Kruchowy had some great saves, keeping the score 3-0.

The second game was against Forks, Pennsylvania. Forks also proved to be a tough opponent with amazing defensive skills. Team Gold was able to score one goal off the stick of Victoria Byra. Victoria had the help of midfielder Shannon Rice and Kerry Lydon causing turnovers and bringing the ball upfield to offense. Goalie Keira Kruchowy also had some amazing saves with the help of sweeper Maggie Harding to keep the opponents at zero goals.

Team Gold then entered the semi-finals against rival Washington. In the regular season, Team Gold beat this team in a very close game of 1-0. Today was a different story as forward Hannah Bianchino had a hat trick. Hannah had the help of mid-fielders Natalia Simcak, Jessie Timler, and Karolina Mateczyk feeding the ball into the offensive circle. This win put the team into the finals against Nazareth. Nazareth was seeded second for the season and Team Gold had yet to play them.

The final championship game was a nail-biter to the end with a tie score of 0-0. Goalie Keira Kruchowy and sweeper Maggie Harding had one of their best games yet getting the ball out of the circle and keeping the ball out of the goal. Gold’s forwards had many shots on goal but the opposing goalie was tough. Gold’s midfielder also helped stop the ball from heading into the circle. Amazing team effort. The tie led to an overtime shootout. This involved five girls from each team dribbling the ball into the circle, one at a time and shooting on the opposing goalie within a 10-second window, alternating with the opposing team. Keira Kruchowy only allowed one of the five girls to score. Team Gold had two girls score: Hannah Bianchino and Milan Citarella both banged the ball into the goal to help bring Team Gold to victory in overtime.

Congratulations to all our Jr Raiders Field Hockey Teams K-6 for an outstanding field hockey season.

Junior Stix Maroon, White and Grey Teams

Jr. Raiders 5-6 Junior Stix Teams Maroon, White and Grey ended their seasons on a terrific note on the field of the 2018 NJPA Field Hockey Tournament in Wilson, Pennsylvania.

Each team showed a tremendous amount of growth through the season and proved that they have become fierce competitors within the NJPA Field Hockey community.

On this long tournament day, these three teams played their hearts out on the field against 17 league teams including their own sister teams. The Maroon team played four solid games arriving at overtime several times with a shootout at both games. Jr. White and Grey teams played a game day similar to that of Maroon with tight games resulting in overtime shootouts. Jr White and Jr Grey made the difficult decision to forfeit their game against each other to support their sister Gold team at the tournament finale.

We commend each and every one of our Jr Raiders 5/6 teams this season. Their significant progress in team play, enhancement of personal game play, and tremendous sportsmanship has exceeded any expectations any of us had for this program. Thank you for a wonderful season Jr Stix.
