Less than one year into her three-year term, Lawrence Township Public Schools Board of Education member Kelly Edelstein has resigned for personal reasons, district administrators said.

Now the board is seeking applicants to fill the open seat. The deadline to apply is Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. Would-be board members should submit a resume or letter of interest with background information to Board Secretary Thomas Eldridge at the district offices at 2565 Princeton Pike.

To be eligible to serve on the board, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have lived in Lawrence Township for at least one year. He or she must be at least 18 and be able to read and write. He or she must be a registered voter and not be otherwise disqualified as a voter.

Applicants must be able to attend the board’s Nov. 14 meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Lawrence High School library. Applicants will be interviewed in public by school board members at the meeting.

Once the interviews have been completed, the board members will act on the remaining items on the agenda. The board members will then go into closed session to discuss the applicants and make their selection. The board will come out of closed session and announce its decision.

The newly appointed board member will serve until Dec. 31, 2019. He or she may run in the November 2019 school board election for a two-year term that ends in January 2021.

During her time on the board, Edelstein served on the Community Relations and Legislative Affairs Committee, and the Curriculum Instruction and Professional Development Committee. She also served on the ad hoc Superintendent Search Committee.

For more information, contact Board Secretary Thomas Eldridge at 609-671-5420.
