Brandon Farms townhouse damaged by fire

A Shrewsbury Court townhouse in the Brandon Farms development was damaged by a fire that apparently started in the chimney on Nov. 5,  according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The first police officer on the scene noticed fire and smoke coming from the chimney and the area near the chimney. The resident had already left the house after calling 911 shortly after 5 p.m., police said.

The townhouse, which was an end unit, suffered fire, heat, smoke and water damage, police said. The residence was determined to be uninhabitable. Adjoining townhouses lost electricity briefly, but were not damaged by the fire.

The Pennington Fire Company, the Hopewell Fire Department, the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad, the Lawrenceville Fire Company and the Ewing Township Fire Department responded to put out the fire.

The Hopewell Valley Emergency Services unit and the Pennington First Aid Squad also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services.
