MARLBORO – The Marlboro Youth Exchange Program will hold a clothing drive fundraiser at Marlboro High School, 95 N. Main St. (Route 79), Marlboro, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18.
A truck will be parked in the high school’s front parking lot to collect donations. The fundraiser will accept donations in the form of new or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, purses, belts, bed and bath linens, stuffed animals, bicycles and baby strollers.
The fundraiser will not accept pillows, toys, furniture, appliances and household items. Tax donation forms will be available.
The Marlboro Youth Exchange Program was founded in 1991 when municipal officials forged a partnership with Nanto City, Japan. The program expanded in 2011 to include Wujiang, China.
As part of the program, Marlboro students welcome their peers from Japan and China into their homes for a week of activities. Host children have the opportunity to travel to the country of the students they hosted for a one-week homestay in one of the two cities, as well as to enjoy additional travel and to further learn and understand the country and its culture.
The program’s page on the township website states it has “provided meaningful multicultural and educational experiences for hundreds of students and their families who have participated from our town and abroad, and it has enabled people in the community to act as responsible global citizens, working for peace and understanding in a diverse world.”
