FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Township Committee has retroactively awarded a $33,400 contract for upgrades to Freehold Township’s water meters.
On Oct. 23, committee members awarded the contract to CRJ Construction Corp. for emergency interconnection meter upgrades that had already been completed. According to municipal officials, the project was for improvements to three emergency connection meter vaults to replace existing meters and related accessories.
The improvements were comprised of the removal and disposal of three existing water meters within three meter chambers, the installation of three new water meters and required accessories, and the installation of three new read registers for the meters in separate enclosures, along with provisions for work in confined spaces and dewatering of chambers as needed.
CRJ Construction Corp. was awarded the contract on the recommendation of Township Engineer Mott MacDonald and Superintendent of Utilities Robert Koches as the lowest bidder, according to the resolution. Other bids were submitted by Karka Construction, which bid $114,500; Montana Construction Corp, which bid $78,000; and Sub-Level Installations Inc., which bid $49,800.
In other business, committee members awarded a contract to Angra Environmental Services Inc. for water testing and laboratory services for the township’s utilities department in an amount not to exceed $40,000. According to the resolution, the anticipated term of the contract is one year.
And, committee members renewed a 2018-19 liquor license for Mamata Freehold Restaurant, LLC (an inactive license) at 4089 Route 9 (Red Roof Inn); a resolution approving a person-to-person transfer of a plenary retail consumption license from BK Thick Shake, LLC to CS Freehold, LLC as a pocket license; and a resolution authorizing a person-to-person and place-to-place expansion of premises, transfer of liquor license from Briad Restaurant Group, LLC (the former TGI Friday’s) to Tommy’s Freehold, LLC (Tommy’s Tavern + Tap), 3492 Route 9.
Finally, the committee introduced an ordinance that will, if adopted, increase fees for municipal parking lots.
The fee for the first vehicle in any household will increase from $100 to $150 per year; the fee for any vehicle other than the first registered in any household will increase from $100 to $150 per year; the fee for any vehicle owned by a non-resident will increase from $200 to $250 per year; and the daily permit will increase from $2 to $5.
A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for Nov. 20. The committee may adopt the ordinance that evening.
