Manalapan Police Beat, Nov. 14

The Manalapan Police Department reported the following incidents that occurred in the township:

• In a case of simple assault on Oct. 25 at 9:08 a.m., a 68-year-old Manalapan resident reported that he was assaulted by a 49-year-old Manalapan resident while at Marianne Manor, Route 33, Manalapan. Minor injuries were sustained as a result of the incident, however, neither party wished to sign criminal complaints, according to police.

• In a case of simple assault on Oct. 27 at 1:45 a.m., a 57-year-old, Manalapan resident and a 63-year-old Manalapan resident each reported they were assaulted by the other while at Marianne Manor, Route 33, Manalapan. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident and neither party wished to sign criminal complaints, according to police.

• Minor injuries resulted on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. when a 44-year-old Manalapan resident reported being assaulted by a 27-year-old Manalapan resident at Marianne Manor, Route 33, Manalapan. Police said the incident is pending the signing of complaints in municipal court.

• On Oct. 26 at 11 a.m., an 85-year-old Manalapan resident told police that an unknown individual had attempted to obtain $4,000 in gift cards from the victim by advising the victim a relative had been arrested. No monetary loss was reported as a result of this incident. Residents are reminded this is an ongoing telephone scam and are cautioned to not respond to these types of calls.

• On Oct. 23 at 10:50 p.m., two unknown individuals walked up the driveway of a Monticello Court, Manalapan, residence, entered the homeowner’s unlocked vehicle, a 2017 grey Mercedes Benz GLS valued at approximately $90,000, started the car with the key fob that had been left inside the vehicle and fled the area. Monticello Court is in a residential development off Gordons Corner Road.

• On Nov. 1 at 7:15 p.m., employees of Best Buy, Route 9, Manalapan, reported an incident of fraud. Police said a 42-year-old female resident of Brooklyn, N.Y., was attempting to purchase $3,199 worth of merchandise. She attempted to pay with a credit card and used a New York driver’s license. An investigation revealed the driver’s license and credit card to be fraudulent. The woman was found to have two warrants issued for her arrest by the Millburn Township Municipal Court in the amounts of $1,710 and $1,000. She was arrested, charged with credit card fraud and possession of a false government document, and placed in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township.

• On Oct. 31 at 11:21 a.m., a Manalapan resident reported that an unknown individual attempted to enter vehicles that were parked in the driveway of a Mercer Lane residence during the overnight hours. Police said the resident provided video surveillance of the incident. The vehicles were locked and the individual did not gain entry.

• On Oct. 31 at 7:24 a.m., a Manalapan resident reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown individual entered an unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway of a Mercer Lane residence and removed $40.

• On Oct. 31 at 7:30 a.m., an unknown individual forcibly entered Brooklyn Square Pizza, 73 Wilson Ave., Manalapan, and removed a cash register valued at $600 that contained $100 cash. The incident is believed to have occurred between 9 p.m. Oct. 30 and 7:20 a.m. Oct. 31. Police said the incident is pending further investigation.

• On Oct. 29 at 8:20 p.m., a Manalapan resident reported that at 4 a.m., an unknown individual, described as being about 5-feet, 9-inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, with a backpack, entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a Church Lane residence. No items were reported missing from the vehicle.

• On Oct. 29 at 8:33 p.m., a Manalapan resident reported that an unknown individual used the resident’s personal information to open a Verizon account and a phone attached to the account. A Best Buy credit card was also opened and more than $3,000 in fraudulent purchases were made. A Kay Jewelers account was attempted to be opened, but was cancelled. Police said the case is pending further investigation.

• On Oct. 29 at 6:08 p.m., a Manalapan resident reported that sometime between 2:10-2:38 p.m., an unknown individual stole a wallet and its contents valued at $2,300 from a shopping cart at Target, Route 9, Manalapan.
