Shutzer, Jordan claim council seats in Freehold Borough

FREEHOLD – Democrats Annette Jordan and Sharon Shutzer have won three-year terms on the Borough Council in Freehold Borough. The terms will run from January 2019 through December 2021.

Shutzer, an incumbent, and Jordan, a newcomer, ran unopposed in the Nov. 6 election. Shutzer received 2,048 votes and Jordan received 1,991 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office. The results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.

With the victories, Democrats will continue to hold all six council seats, as well as the mayor’s office, in Freehold Borough.

Jordan has been a resident of Freehold Borough for 28 years and is a 19-year member of the Freehold Borough K-8 School District Board of Education.

She has also served on the Planning Board, the Human Relations Committee and the Innovation Committee, and on the Freehold Municipal Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse, which serves Freehold Borough and Freehold Township. Professionally, she worked in several account management capacities at Gannett Media before retiring.

“Thank you to the borough residents for having confidence in me,” Jordan said. “As the freshman council member, I’m excited to work with the mayor and council to promote collaborative partnerships for redevelopment, continue citizen engagement and do right by the residents of this wonderful little borough. I’m ready to get to to work.”

Shutzer has been a resident of Freehold Borough for 47 years. She has served on the council since 1992 and is serving as council president in 2018. She served on the Board of Education for six years in the 1970s and 1980s.

Shutzer is a retired teacher. Of her re-election, she said, “I am honored and humbled by the confidence the residents have shown in me. I will continue to show my love for Freehold Borough and its residents by representing them with the same passion and tenacity I have exhibited for the last 27 years.”
