UPPER FREEHOLD – Michele Anthony, Howard Krieger and Brett Williams have won three-year terms on the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education.
Anthony and Krieger are members of the board; Williams is a newcomer who will join the panel in January.
Of the board’s nine members, seven are residents of Upper Freehold Township and two are residents of Allentown. This year, all three seats on the ballot were for representatives from Upper Freehold Township.
When the results were tallied following the Nov. 6 election, Anthony retained her seat by receiving 1,713 votes, Williams won a seat by receiving 1,603 votes and Krieger retained his seat by receiving 1,514 votes, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.
Rick Smith, who joined the board in 2013 and is currently serving as vice president, received 1,093 votes. His term will end in December. The election results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.
Anthony worked as an actuarial assistant and underwriter at MetLife and New York Life Insurance before retiring. A resident of Upper Freehold for 18 years, she joined the board in 2016.
“I am honored with my re-election and look forward to continuing my service to the school district,” she said. “Along with our newly appointed superintendent, Mr. Mark Guterl, the board will continue to work together to ensure we are providing all of our students a superior education while maintaining fiscal responsibility to the taxpayers.”
Krieger, who is retired, worked for Pathmark as a district manager and the director of human relations and also owned three Friendly’s restaurants. He has lived in Upper Freehold for 28 years and joined the board in 2003.
“I would like to thank Rick Smith for his years of outstanding service to the children … Their futures will be brighter because of his efforts on their behalf. I would also like to thank the people of Upper Freehold for their support of me over the past 15 years.
“I can assure them I remain totally committed to our community and our school district and will always make the well being of our children my highest priority. I would also like to congratulate Michelle and Brett on their election and I look forward to working with them going forward,” Krieger said.
Williams works for an institutional commercial real estate investment company and has served on the Allentown Redbird Baseball and Softball board for eight years, serving as treasurer for the past six years. He has lived in Upper Freehold for 14 years.
“Thank you to everyone who got out to vote,” he said. “I appreciate your support. I am excited about the opportunity to serve this great community.”
