MILLSTONE – Billy Hanson, Christine Reese and John Saxton have been elected to three-year terms on the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education.
Hanson is a current member of the board, Reese is a newcomer and Saxton is a former member of the board. Their terms will begin in January.
According to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Reese won a seat by receiving 2,156 votes, Hanson retained his seat by receiving 2,061 votes and Saxton won a new seat by receiving 1,992 votes.
Current board member John Sico, who joined the board in 2016, received 1,438 votes. His term will end in December. The election results are unofficial until they are certified by the county.
Hanson is a certified public accountant and runs an office equipment company in New York. A resident of Millstone for 15 years, he joined the board in 2016.
“Thank you to everyone for the support,” Hanson said. “I will work hard along with the other board members and the administration to continue the work I have been a part of for the past few years. We have a great community in Millstone and an excellent educational system. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Reese is a guidance counselor and has worked for the New York City Department of Education for 23 years.
“Eleven years ago, my family and I decided to explore the possibility of relocating to New Jersey,” Reese said. “Our desire was to locate the ‘perfect place’ that would enhance and improve the quality of our lives and provide us a nourishing and positive lifestyle.
“After an extensive and often exhausting search, we decided Millstone Township was where we wanted to be. Millstone’s natural beauty, rural composition and public school educational institutions made our choice a ‘no brainer.’
“The reputation, quality and standards of excellence achieved and maintained by the Millstone Township school district was unequaled,” Reese continued. “We believed these factors assured that our daughters would benefit and thrive in such an environment.
” As a lifelong educator, I welcome my election and appointment to the board. It is my hope and wish that I can provide a positive impact and continue in maintaining the high standards and effectiveness of our schools,” she said.
Saxton works in information technology and is currently a technology solution architect with Microsoft. He previously served on the board from 2010-16.
“I worked very hard as part of this board to get the school district to this place where we have excellent educational opportunities, as well as fiscally responsible funding to provide them,” he said prior to the election. “I plan to continue that work and look for additional ways to address the latest changes to school funding.”
