Spotswood voters elect incumbent, newcomer to school board

SPOTSWOOD – Residents have elected incumbent Mariellen Chasan and newcomer Suzanne Roque-Krainski to the Spotswood Board of Education.

Roque-Krainski recorded 1,635 votes and Chasan collected 1,626 votes in the Nov. 6 election, securing the two available three-year terms, according to results posted by the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.

Election results are not official until certified by the county.

Incumbent Dulce Branco-Rivera received 1,350 votes in an unsuccessful bid for re-election.

Branco-Rivera said while there is a level of disappointment, she is OK with the results. She said her decision to run again was last-minute and only because she has a short list of items she wanted to complete. She said her fellow board members have all reached out and assured her they will work to complete those goals.

“They are all good people who want what’s best for the entire district and I am very proud of all that we accomplished together. My son is graduating in June and I am ready to move onto the next chapter and my next great adventure,” Branco-Rivera said. “In the end, I’m not going far. I have been attending school board and Borough Council meetings for over 10 years and I don’t see that ending anytime soon. I wish the new board much success.”
